last man standing

July 4, 2008

guess he's right, as my ex-colleague put it, that i was the last man standing. but unlike any accomplishment, this one was not a bit fulfilling. it all started one fateful day with an order of transfer to another department. this came as a surprise to four of us, a looming voluntary resignation or sudden discharge from the company was what it was. without words, just worried looks and a sigh we all understood, we were in trouble. we were about to be transfered to another sales department carrying the same products as what we were selling with pricing as the only difference, they were higher. the customers we’ve gathered for more than a year would certainly not be glad to tag along.
on our first month, expectedly, none of us were able to hit the goal. another unproductive month and we’re out. the following month, i was the only one to hit the goal and that was only because one of the huge buyers from my previous account purchased an item in bulk and the price happened to be just the same as what he was getting before. the other three were not as lucky. all of us had the option to risk another month and hopefully, with huge amount of luck, make it or just give up and resign before getting officially fired. one of us took a smart move and applied for a lateral transfer to a non-sales department (check the post: out of place. he’s not the same person though). the other two, although failed to meet the requirements were given another chance along with a paper they need to sign (check post: when doing the wrong thing is the right thing to do).
i met the quota the succeeding month, one of us chose to resign, the other made it to another department, the third sadly was asked to resign. that made me the last man standing, but not for long, i thought. so i applied for a lateral transfer and now just waiting for a notice from HR for an interview. it’s like applying for a new position. if i don’t make it, hopefully i would, i’m going to stay in sales. that’s if luck continues to come my way, which disturbingly i’m running short of this month, or if i choose to quit. i just hope to make it to the lateral transfer and touch base with my colleague and co-survivor who was able to smart it through.
