Out of place

June 17, 2008

it hit us one day, when a friend and colleague from the same department suddenly decided to apply for a lateral transfer to another department. what’s baffling is that his decision was made almost in an impulse. as if suddenly realizing he needs to take a bath. he learned from a buddy of the said internal posting and decided he’ll take his chance that very same day. lateral transfer is a smart move when one can’t handle the constant pressure in sales, especially if one is on the brink of getting fired due to unsatisfactory numbers, which almost happened to me. but his case is way different, he’s doing darn good in sales and losing his job, i suppose, is the last of his worries. then it all became clear during our talk. after staying with the company for over two years, after all the effort of pooling clients and closing huge sales, after all the struggle of sticking as much and as close to the “righteous salesman’s handbook”, after all of it, the company just dont seem to care. i guess it all boils down to one thing, growth in the company is nil. if he’s successful with the transfer i can see an apparent misplacement of post, unless he’d really really do good in that position. but still he’ll not be as good an asset as he is now in a sales post. tsk tsk tsk what a waste of skill, just another victim of the system.
